  • AI tools and plain-text exports almost always use straight quotes. Running this normalizer should be one of the last steps before KDP formatting.
  • Em dashes (—) should have no spaces in American English. British conventions sometimes use spaced en dashes ( – ). Know your market.
  • Check nested quotes: American English uses double quotes first, then single inside. British English reverses this — pick one and stay consistent.
  • Ellipsis should be a single character (…), not three periods (...). This prevents awkward line breaks in Kindle ebooks.
