Include the ending if you want the synopsis to reveal it. A paste that stops early produces a synopsis that stops early.

About this tool

A query letter hides the ending. A retail blurb hides it too. An agent synopsis does the opposite. Current agency guidance is about 500 to 800 words, one page, third person, present tense, with the ending stated in full. Capitalize a major character’s name the first time only, and name only the people the plot needs. Agents read it to see whether the climax is earned. A synopsis that stops at a cliffhanger reads as a blurb. This tool writes that document from your paste. If the paste stops before the ending, the synopsis stops there. It will not invent the pages you have not written. Check the agency’s own page before you send it — some want 500 words, some want two pages.

What you can do

  • 500–800 word synopsis in chronological order
  • Allowed to reveal the ending when the ending is in the paste
  • No events added that the paste does not contain
  • A separate one-sentence logline that still hides the ending, for the query
  • Word count on the result so you can see if it is actually one page
  • Distinct from the query letter tool and the blurb builder, which both conceal the ending

Planning tools and long-form structure

Novels fail when structure is improvised scene by scene. Beat sheets, chapter planners, and blurb builders help you decide pacing and reader promises before you spend tokens on prose. Pair these tools with an outline in Entangled Text so generation follows a spine.

How to use it

  1. Enter the title and genre.
  2. Paste the manuscript, or as much of the plot as you need the synopsis to cover. Chapter headings help.
  3. Generate. Read the synopsis against the draft. Delete any sentence you cannot find in the book.
  4. Use the synopsis in the agent’s synopsis slot. Use the logline, not the synopsis, in the query body.
  5. If the paste was cut for length, the note on the result says the end of the file was not read. Paste the ending and run again before you send it.

Tips for fiction authors

  • Agents want cause and effect, not a chapter list. “She refuses the offer, so the firm sends someone else” is a synopsis sentence. “Chapter 4 is sad” is not.
  • Name the protagonist in the first sentence. Side characters get a name only if the agent needs them to understand the ending.
  • One page is about 500–800 words. Over 1,000 is a treatment, not a synopsis.
  • Do not paste the synopsis into your Amazon description. Shoppers are not agents.
  • If you have no ending yet, this tool will not pretend you do. Finish the draft, or label the synopsis as partial when you send it.

Common questions

Should a novel synopsis include the ending?

Yes, when an agent or editor asked for a synopsis. They want the resolution, including twists. A synopsis that stops at “everything changes” reads as a blurb. Query letters and retail blurbs are the documents that hide the ending. This tool writes the synopsis version.

How long is a one-page synopsis?

About 500 to 800 words, double-spaced in a manuscript document, which lands near a single page. Some agents ask for two pages. The result shows a word count so you can trim or extend before you attach it.

What tense and person should an agent synopsis use?

Third person, present tense, even when the novel is first person or past tense. That is the convention agents describe in current submission guides. Major character names go in capitals the first time they appear, then in ordinary case. The logline beside the synopsis is the one-sentence pitch that still hides the ending.

Will this invent an ending if I only paste the first half?

It is instructed not to. The synopsis may only use events in the paste. If your file is longer than the tool can read, the result says the end was cut off. Paste the climax and run again before you treat it as a full synopsis.

How is this different from the query letter generator?

The query letter is the email: hook, a short pitch that does not spoil, comps, and a bio. The synopsis is the attachment that tells the whole plot, ending included. Write the synopsis here, then point the query at it. Do not paste this synopsis into the query body.

How is this different from a chapter recap?

A chapter recap is a continuity note for you: what just happened, what later chapters must remember. It is not written for an agent and it is not one page for the whole book. Use the recap tool while you draft. Use this when you are ready to submit.

Can I use the synopsis as my Amazon book description?

No. A product description that spoils the ending loses the sale. Use the blurb builder or the Kindle description generator for the store page.

Is the synopsis generator free?

Yes. It uses Entangled Text’s included AI, with a free-use limit per device. You do not provide an API key.
