Billing, cancellation, and refunds
Pro and Ultra are monthly subscriptions billed in USD. You can start on Free with no credit card. Upgrades happen from Account / Billing in the dashboard after you are signed in.
Cancel anytime from Billing. Auto-renewal stops as soon as you cancel. You keep paid-plan access until the end of the period you already paid for, then the account returns to Free (full Story Studio plus paced Free AI). There is no prorated refund for unused days in the current period — same as stated on the in-app cancel screen.
If a charge looks incorrect, or you were billed after you thought you had cancelled, contact us with the email on the account. We will look at the Stripe or PayPal invoice. Do not send card numbers in email.
Word top-ups ($5) on Pro and Ultra are one-time additions to the current cycle. They are not a separate subscription. Unused top-up words do not roll into a cancelled Free account as a paid pool.
How Free pacing works day to day
Free is a real novel studio, not a demo that locks export. The limit is new chapter generation on a shared queue: outline + 3 new chapters/day. You can still outline (subject to the included outline allowance), edit by hand, run diffs, lock chapters, fill Ship listing fields, and export EPUB/DOCX/PDF.
Edits do not use the new-chapter slot. If a paragraph is wrong, rewrite it in the editor or run a scoped polish instead of regenerating the whole chapter. Unused new-chapter slots reset with the daily window — they do not stack into a week-long binge.
That pace is enough to finish a novel if you write regularly. It is not enough if you want to generate an 80k-word draft in a weekend. That is when Pro’s monthly pool (and stronger prose) is the upgrade, not “buying a key.”
What you are paying for (and what you are not)
Entangled Text is a fiction writing studio, not a chat subscription. Free gives you the product: projects, outlines, chapter queues, revision diffs, beta-reader links, exports, and included Free AI (outline + 3 new chapters/day).
Why authors upgrade: Pro’s Kestrel — Pro is a much more powerful model with better prose than Free — fewer flat passages, stronger voice, less cleanup — plus a monthly pool you can spend in a day if a deadline calls for it. Ultra keeps that same powerful model family with a larger included pool for multi-book months or heavy polish. Both skip the Free queue and omit Free’s EPUB/DOCX attribution pages.
Included Free / Pro / Ultra AI uses platform-managed routing. We do not resell your manuscript text or train third-party models on your books.
Paid plans speed finishing and raise prose quality; they are not required to use Story Studio or export for Kindle.
Free AI novel writer vs paying for chat alone
If your goal is to write books free with AI, a chat subscription only solves brainstorming. You still need somewhere to keep the outline, approve chapters, review diffs, and export EPUB for Kindle.

- Free is metered in new chapters per day; Pro and Ultra are quoted in finished manuscript words. The two figures are not the same unit, so don't compare them directly.
- Pro and Ultra capacity estimates are finished-manuscript guides, not guarantees. Outline jobs, writing instructions, chapter context, polish, retries, and heavy edits all spend the same pool.
- $5 top-ups add roughly 42,000 words, available on Pro and Ultra from Account when you need extra mid-cycle.
- AI still needs your judgment. Diff review and human editing are part of the product on purpose.
- Exports work on Free; Pro and Ultra omit the Entangled Text foreword/afterword from EPUB/DOCX (KDP zip is clean on all plans). Attribution is foreword/afterword pages — not a watermark.

Can I cancel Pro or Ultra anytime?
Yes. Cancel from Billing in the dashboard. Auto-renewal stops immediately. There is no prorated refund for the current paid period. You keep Free-tier access (studio + paced Free AI) after the paid period ends.
Do you offer refunds?
Subscriptions are billed in advance for the period. Cancel anytime to stop the next charge. We do not issue prorated refunds for unused days in the current period. If a charge looks wrong, use the contact form and we will look at the invoice.
What spends my Pro or Ultra pool?
