About this tool

Track what changed between revision passes — essential when AI silently rewrites sentences you wanted to keep. This manuscript diff tool compares two pasted versions word-by-word, highlighting additions and deletions with word-count stats, so you can review AI edits, beta feedback, or your own rewrites without Microsoft Word. Both versions stay in your browser; nothing uploads to Entangled Text.

What you can do

  • Word-level diff optimized for prose where sentences shift slightly
  • Green additions and red deletions with clear visual contrast
  • Word-count delta stats showing net change between versions
  • Swap button to flip Version A and Version B quickly
  • Works on chapters, scenes, or full manuscript segments
  • Ideal for reviewing AI polish passes from Story Studio or external tools
  • Private browser processing — no document upload

Continuity checks across long manuscripts

Series bibles, name-variant lists, and POV slip detectors address the main failure mode of AI long-form writing: drift. Names change spelling, timelines compress, and point of view wobbles. Log facts as you write and re-scan after every major revision pass.

  1. Paste the original text in Version A.
  2. Paste the revised text in Version B.

  4. Review green additions and red deletions line by line.
  5. Use Swap to flip versions if you pasted them in the wrong order.

Tips for fiction authors

  • Always diff your chapter before and after an AI editing pass. Models sometimes silently add or remove sentences you want to keep.
  • Save your pre-edit text before every major revision. Having Version A available makes diff reviews effortless.
  • When beta readers return marked-up chapters, diff against your original to isolate only the lines they changed.
  • Track word count delta in the diff stats. If your AI edit added 500 words, check whether it padded or genuinely expanded a scene.
  • Run diff after Entangled Text Story Studio rewrite suggestions to accept or reject changes with full visibility.

Common questions
Is this a line diff or word diff?

Word-level diff — best for prose edits where sentence structure changes slightly between versions.

Is my manuscript uploaded?

No. Diff runs entirely in your browser on Entangled Text.

Can I compare AI-edited chapters?

Yes. Paste before and after AI revision to see exactly what changed — essential for AI draft cleanup.

Does it work with large novels?

Yes for chapter-sized chunks. Very large pastes may slow the browser but never leave your device.

How does this pair with other tools?

Diff after cleanup passes, then run Manuscript Cleanup on the revised version to confirm metrics improved.
