When a mysterious cosmic System rewrites the rules of reality without warning or permission, it doesn't announce itself with fanfare. For former Marine and veteran long-distance hiker Nolan Locke, the catastrophe lands while he's three hundred miles from home on the Appalachian Trail, somewhere north of Harpers Ferry with a dead phone, a full pack, and no way to reach the people who matter. His ability—Parallel Form, the power to create and inhabit a second body—is strange enough to be useful and dangerous enough to require careful handling. Catalyst is a grounded, progression-driven survival story that trades in practical urgency and dry wit: what happens when a man who processes catastrophe as a logistics exercise gets handed an ability that doubles his capacity and halves his margin for error, and then has to use both to get home before winter finishes what the System started.
